
2016: Water Under the Bridge thanks to Ralph Ammer
I just got off a group video call with American and Canadian participants, and nobody mentioned politics at all. This is probably a hopeful sign, and I choose to think of it that way. As they say, “Start as you mean to go on”.
So I revisited the interview Michael Enright did with Arlie Hochschild about her research/book that delved into the ‘deep story’ of the alt-right voters in Louisiana. I found the information most intriguing, and a way to look at the real issue, the voters.
It’s not Trump himself, any person who met the needs of this group would be supported, and that’s what interests me. How do we get to approach these individuals with understanding and compassion so that we can engage with them on a meaningful level.
